This absinthe fountain has two levels. The upper level will be filled up with fresh water, whereas you fill the lower level with absinthe through a glass pipe that crosses the fountain.
A comlex but original object !
- You can fill your fountain with ice cubes in order to obtain very cold water.
- Do not empty your fountain straight after having used it, the difference in temperature could damage it; wait until the next day.
- Contrarily to what one might think, absinthe fountains arrived very late. They presumably arrived in 1886, when the maison Cusenier wished to give absinthe a "hygenic" image.
- Historical fountains usualy have 4 taps. Their lids are decorated with a coq gaulois, an acorn or a pine cone. All these symbols were installed in order to stop scaring away ladies.
